Rubinshteina Street has long been overpopulated with restaurants, but for the sake of the third Blinovsky restaurant, you can expand upwards - there was a room on the second floor of building No. 20, with luxurious windows and a main entrance between the MDT and "Rubinstein". In the first "Duo" from the design interior there was a gaping nothing and a turquoise sofa, "Tartarbar" was immediately known as brutal with cracks on the walls and vandal painted "Lady in Blue" by Gainsborough - the restaurant "Duo Asia" came out restrained and stately. Black and white decoration, marbled tables, wall paintings by star calligrapher Pokras Lampas, craftware from Matchast, gold appliances - and a forge-kitchen in the center of the hall (just forget everything you've heard before about "open kitchens").

The main precepts of "duoband" are unchanged: low prices (mostly 300-500 rubles), small portions (to master 4-7 dishes and survive), fast service(tables are booked for 2 hours). Do not expect authentic Asian cuisine, purebred - too. The menu includes author's dishes in the style of Asia and Latin America.

Key specialties are taken into account: Duo Asia chefs prepare smashed cucumbers, four types of sashimi, three types of dim sum, steamed bao buns with hearty and sweet fillings, ceviche, tacos and poke. For everything else, there is wasabi and miso, coconut and sesame sauces, yuzu and kaffir lime, chili and blue tea, which allow any dish to enter the exotic format of the new Duo.

Curious about the wine list. When the Duo gastrobar opened in 2014, the division of wines not by country, but into three armor-piercing sections “For No Reason”, “For the Holidays” and simply “Our Favorite Wine” seemed even defiant. A year and a half ago, Tartabar compiled a conceptual wine list, combining respected Pinot Noirs and Rieslings into separate chapters, dividing the wines into “interesting” and “daring”. Today, when every fifth sommelier divides wines subjectively, according to styles or according to circumstances, the Duo Asia team is switching to a classic format: they allocate one page to French, Italian, Spanish, German wines. As for the assortment itself, it is universal: there is a simple vinho verde and interesting autochthonous wines, grandcru for the enthusiastic, orange for the trendy and 13 wines on tap for 260-750 rubles per glass.

Until the end of the summer, Duo Asia is open from 18:00, in the autumn the restaurant will also open for lunch. The restaurant has no signage. A table must be booked in advance.

In the same house as the E.D.A. and Coffee" gastrobar Duo opened on Kirochnaya Street - a small establishment with 25 seats, which, unlike its neighbor, is open only in the evenings. As you might guess, there are two owners - the former chef of the Freeman's restaurant Dmitry Blinov and Renat Malikov, who previously worked at the Mayakovsky bar of the same ZL-group holding.

The development of the menu in the first independent project was carried out for the most part by Blinov. His handwriting is easy to recognize: everything is prepared from simple products, which you can buy yourself, no more than three or four ingredients are used for one dish. At the same time, the menu, which fits on one sheet, is full of interesting combinations: smoked salmon, for example, served with a mousse of sour cream and fresh horseradish, and halibut with Parma ham and celery root cream. Among the chef's favorite dishes are beets and carrots baked with honey and thyme, scallops with buckwheat and smoked meat. duck breast and duck leg stew with porcini mushrooms and truffle (the latter, despite the expensive ingredients, costs only 320 rubles).

The wine list in Duo also tried to make it as accessible as possible. Almost all bottles (and there are about three dozen of them here) cost up to two thousand rubles, a glass of lambrusco, sauvignon blanc or malbec give 130 rubles each. Choice strong alcohol minimal - the emphasis is still on wine. The owners also learn how to brew coffee and prepare their own hot drinks - sea buckthorn, orange and mint, hot chocolate on the orange juice other.







Salads and snacks in the restaurant are prepared in front of the guests at the open counter. It occupies almost half of the room, leaving little space for the rest of the room. “Duo Asia is already the third project of the DUOband team led by Dmitry Blinov and Renat Malikov, who have previously been noted by such establishments as Duo Gastrobar and TartarBar. Restaurant with an area of ​​about 320 sq. m with a seating hall for 70 guests and a large open kitchen (for the sake of which they actually come here) is located on the very restaurant street of St. Petersburg - Rubinstein, at number 20.

Like all Duoband projects, "Duo Asia" retained its restraint and stateliness in terms of interior design (black and white walls, tables with the effect of natural stone, Matchast craft ceramic dishes), but at the same time "dispersed" in the kitchen. We are very pleased that it was the Altek group of companies that was entrusted with the most expensive thing - equipping the kitchen-forge of the restaurant. And not only the back-kitchen, but also the main element and, frankly, the decoration of the establishment - a thermal kitchen island, which is installed right in the restaurant hall and occupies most of it.

I have long been intrigued by this place: divine cuisine at affordable prices, delighting some and bewildering others. I booked a table in advance in the evening, studied the menu, read that the chef and founder Dmitry Blinov personally ennobled the flower beds at the entrance and planted asters (imbued) and in general, a strict but hardworking person, without showing off and treats his kitchen accordingly.
Came, really flowerbeds and tulips, and tables are exposed, and blankets in a pile - it's nice.

The interior is laconic, but I like these blue (or turquoise?) velvet chairs, the name of the restaurant is unobtrusively present on plates, stands for cutlery. The people complained that it was crowded, firstly: in other foreign institutions it was even more crowded, and secondly: we didn’t think about it at all, it was somehow easy, tasty, and the people around were also some kind of organic institution.
