Beer in Prague

Beer in Prague and in the Czech Republic is a real national product. And this is not just the most popular drink, it is a real attraction that occupies a huge place in the culture and life of the Czechs.

The traditions of brewing in the Czech Republic are rooted in the Middle Ages, namely in the 10th-11th century. Beer in Prague is represented by many brands and varieties: from well-known world producers to small private breweries, from light to dark.

There is also a very large variety and number of establishments that offer a foamy drink: from traditional pubs to modern bars and restaurants.

Do you know where there are other good pubs? Want to talk about your favorite places? Waiting for comments ;-)

Breweries of Prague - a special conversation! In order to impartially judge brewing in the Czech capital, I had to go around almost all the breweries in Prague (moreover, visit each drinking establishment at least twice) and taste all the beer that was on tap at the time of the visit. The activity is both fun and challenging! Still, there are more than 30 of them.

As a result, it was decided to divide the Prague breweries into two groups. The first included breweries located in the city center and their target audience is mainly tourists. The second group consisted of breweries, which are located in the residential areas of the city and serve mostly the local public.

Libock brewer. Dark wheat beer "Šebestián 13°"

This does not mean that the tourist breweries are bad or worse than those located in the suburbs of Prague. They are just different. And in most cases, we like them much less than those that work for the local public. For several reasons.

Firstly, often unreasonably high prices in the center; secondly, there is usually a tourist atmosphere that we cannot stand; and thirdly, the pinnacle of Czech brewing (and, by the way, of the world too) are lager varieties, which are usually not available in tourist breweries, and instead of them we are offered very mediocre, but now popular American and Indian ales or various stouts. That's all.

As for the assessment of beer in Prague breweries, this is a very subjective matter. It's like a movie: the Audience Award is usually given to a film that was bypassed by film critics (and vice versa). As Vladimir Ilyich wrote:

“They are terribly far from the people. But their work is not lost."

Therefore, in order not to break away from reality, let's take the well-known Czech beer bloggers Marley (Marley), Bořík (Borzhik) and the beer blogger the girl Bludice (Bludice) as assistants, who regularly visit the breweries in Prague and at the tasting of Czech beer, which is called "they ate the dog."

Bloggers impersonate Russians tasting Russian beer (photo by Bludice)

Their assessments are, of course, as subjective as mine, which bloggers do not hesitate to declare before each new tasting. But, firstly, their assessments in most cases coincide with mine, and secondly, they visited the same U Bulovka brewery 17 times, and I 3.

And as you know, in mini-breweries, the quality of beer can vary from brew to brew. That is why the number of visits to the brewery is so important, since it is not entirely correct to draw conclusions about the quality of the beer of a drinking establishment based on one tasting.So, after a short introduction, let's finally hit the road to Prague's breweries!

Prague breweries on the map

The best breweries in Prague. Rating

The best breweries in Prague are not so easy to determine! You have to take into account many factors: and the taste of the foamy drink; and value for money beer; and the atmosphere of the institution; and brewery kitchens. Breweries in Prague

Breweries of Prague in the center

This section presents breweries that are located in the city center, in the metropolitan areas of Prague-1 and Prague-2, and their target audience is mainly tourists. The prices here are quite high, but it is worth noting that in rare cases they are justified.

1. Pivovar "U Fleků"

O overview in one sentence. "At Flack's" - the oldest brewery in the Old World, which has been brewing beer non-stop since 1499.

Atmosphere. Tourist drinking establishment with sloppy service, high prices, and no local crowd (our score of 4.5 out of 10 is below average). By the way, keep in mind that here they can shortchange if you came in a big company and are not used to checking the check! Czech bloggers prudently do not evaluate the atmosphere of this institution. The most memorable in the atmosphere of the institution is the local waiters, who, in our opinion, are like two drops of water like orphans from « 12 chairs » .

Beer. The brewery's only beer is the signature dark special beer "Flekovský ležák 13°". For our taste, not bad beer (rating 6.9 out of 10 is good), but not outstanding. The more expensive it is, the worse it is than the brewer's dark specialty beer. By the way, Marley and Bludice rate flekovský ležák as 7.2 out of 10 (very good). We think it's a little overrated. But whatever we say, absolutely any tourist who finds himself in Prague considers it necessary to try this beer. Therefore, oblivion does not threaten this brewery!

  • Address: Křemencova 1651/11, Praha 1, Nové Město;
  • How to get there: public transport stop "Myslíkova". Tram routes No. 5, No. 9. From the stop to the brewery 100 meters;
  • "U Fleků"
  • Opening hours: Mon-Sun 10-23;
  • Website: www.ufleku.cz

2. Klášterní pivovar "Strahov"

Overview in one sentence. The Strahov monastery brewery, opened in 2001, continues the brewing craft of the Strahov Monastery, which has existed here since the 13th century.

Atmosphere. A very famous tourist brewery in Prague, in which we have never met the Czech public. Let's make a reservation right away that the pricing policy of the brewery from 65 Kč for a 0.4l glass and the touristic atmosphere are not attractive to us, and after visiting this institution a couple of times, we lost interest in it (our assessment of the institution is 5.2 on a ten-point scale - above average) . By the way, the Czech blogger Bludice rates the atmosphere of the establishment as 8 on a ten-point scale (excellent), which, in our opinion, is very strange!

Kitchen. Prices for the soup of the day start at 70 CZK - it's just a flop!

Beer. On the voucher of the drinking establishment on a permanent basis are presented: special dark unfiltered beer “St. Norbert 14°” and a special semi-dark beer “St. Norbert 13°". Other varieties such as: Bohemian Pilsner; Christmas ale; March beer; Indian Pale Ale St. Norbert 16°"; wheat; bok-beer, doppelbock and some others are seasonal or brewed according to mood. The current varieties of the brewery can only be found on the label of the drinking establishment. Marly and Bludice rate both the brewery's dark and semi-dark beers at 8.2 out of ten, i.e. excellent (although we think it's overrated, our 7 out of 10 is good).

  • Address: Strahovské nádvoří 301/10, Praha 1, Hradčany;
  • How to get there: the stop of urban land transport "Pohořelec". Tram route number 22. One of the entrances to the monastery is located 100 meters from the stop, in the arch of house number 9 on Pohořelec Square, to the right of the Melvin cafe;
  • "St. norbert"
  • Opening hours: Mon-Sun 10-22;
  • Website: klasterni-pivovar.cz

3. Pivovar "U Tří růží"

Prague. In the brewery "U Tří růží"

Overview in one sentence. The best Prague brewery for beer geeks (people who are obsessed with beer and at the same time claim to be some kind of chosenness).

Atmosphere. Restaurant and brewery "At three roses", located on the hiking trail opposite the famous Pilsen beer garden, is today one of the best breweries in the city center. “U Tří růží” is expensive, refined (beer is poured into special 0.25-liter tasting glasses) and museum-chamber (especially during the day). A striking contrast to the typical Prague pub "At the Golden Tiger", especially if you go right after it. Frankly, we don't like that kind of pomposity. And it’s interesting to sip beer once or twice, and then you just want to relax. It won't work that way here. This is not a pub, and not a beer garden. Here you need to smack your lips, click your tongue and shake your head. Well, it’s better to speak a foreign language, since Czechs almost never go to such establishments (our rating of the establishment is 6.8 on a ten-point scale - good). Note that Czech blogger Marly rates the atmosphere at 7.5 on a ten-point scale (very good), while noting its touristy atmosphere, but considering this place almost a must-see for people who are looking for an interesting beer.

Kitchen. Delicacies of Czech and Moravian cuisine in a modern twist from renowned chef Martin Prochazka.

Beer. On the cover of the drinking establishment, sweetie Robert Maniak (by the way, a good surname for a person dedicated to his work) presented 6 varieties of author's beer: from traditional Czech lagers and German wheat beer, to various ales and dry stout with a hint of Irish Guinness (our rating of the brewery's beer is 7.2 on a scale of 1 to 10, very good. Marley and Bludice rate the dark special "Dark Rose 17°" as an 8 out of 10 (excellent); semi-dark special “Sv. Jiljí No. 3 (16°)" - 6.8 (very good); wheat "Starobavorské bílé 12°" - 7.3 (very good); light special (13°) - 6.8 (good); semi-dark special "Vídeňský speciál 15 °" - 6.5 (good).

  • Address: Husova 232/10, Praha 1, Staré Město;
  • How to get there: public transport stop "Mariánské náměstí". Bus route number 294. Then walk 180 meters along Husova street;
  • Location on Mapy.cz map:"U Tří růží"
  • Opening hours: Mon-Thu 11:00-23:00, Fri-Sat 11:00-24:00, Sun 11:00-23:00;
  • Website: u3r.cz

4. Pivovar "U Dobrenskych"

Overview in one sentence. The U Dobzhensky brewery, which appeared only in 2015, brews the most original craft beer in the center of the Czech capital.

Atmosphere. Very nice basement in the very center of Prague, not far from the Charles Bridge. If it weren’t for the prices and strange beer, this place wouldn’t have a price! (our assessment of the institution is 6.9 on a ten-point scale - good).

Kitchen. Overpriced food.

Beer. U Dobzhenskys serves only two original beers: light ale Tribulus beer 14° with the addition of the herbaceous flowering plant Tribulus at 75 Kč per 0.4 liter and Salvia Stout 14° with sage flavor for 68 Kč. By the way, we liked the local stout. Very nice soft chocolate flavor. Although, pampering is all! You won’t go here all the time - it’s expensive and there is no good inexpensive light lager. Marley rates the Pale Ale as a 6 out of 10 (good) - an overestimate in our opinion - a correct 5.5 (above average); stout - 7.5 (very good) - the correct assessment.

Novoměstský pivovar (photo spolecenstviuplnku.cz)

Overview in one sentence. The Novomnestsky brewer has been operating since 1993, and once upon a time (at the end of the 20th century) was a trendsetter in the craft brewing of the Czech capital.

Atmosphere. Tourist drinking establishment with mediocre service and occasional local presence (a 5.2 out of 10 is above average). If you decide to visit this brewery, it is better to stay in the basement. There, the condo design of the beer house is not so annoying - “ala Czech village”. Czech bloggers rate the atmosphere of the establishment as 5.5 on a ten-point scale (above average), considering the atmosphere of the establishment to be too touristy.

Kitchen. Average food, slightly overpriced.

Beer. According to the Hamburg account, the New Nest brewer has two types of beer: a light and dark fermented lager. Regular beer (our rating is 5.2 out of 10 - above average). Everything else is a variation of it. And this brewer is very similar to his Prague brewer clone. The same beer carousel, where, in addition to the above lagers, there are: rzhezane beer (mixed light and dark lager); beer champagne and flavored beer with coffee, caramel, banana and ginger flavors. Marly and Bludice rate the local pale lager a 5.8 on a scale of 1 to 10. slightly above average, and a 6 dark lager is good.

  • Address: Vodičkova 682/20, Praha 1, Nové Město;
  • How to get there: public transport stop "Vodičkova". Tram routes No. 3, No. 5, No. 6, No. 9, No. 14. The brewery is located opposite the stop;
  • Location on mapy.cz map: « »
  • Opening hours: Mon-Fri 10-23; Sat 11:30-23:30; Sun 12-22;
  • Website: www.npivovar.cz

6. Brewery "Pivovarský Dům"

Overview in one sentence. The brewery house was opened, like its clone Novomnestsky brewer, at the end of the last century (they are located nearby), and once upon a time (no one can even remember when) made a splash in the craft brewing of the Czech capital with its flavored beer.

Atmosphere. Neither the cuisine nor the beer of this establishment is to our liking. And the lack of a local audience does not speak in his favor. The only thing that saves this institution is the presence of a tourist attraction in the beer - a set of assorted each of the eight types of beer that are brewed in the brewery (the rating of the institution is 5.5 on a ten-point scale - above average).

Kitchen. Nothing special, but prices are a little high.

Beer. On a tasting order, you will be served 100 milliliters of each of the 8 beers brewed in the brewery in the following variations: wheat beer and beer of the month; light and dark lager; flavored beer with banana, coffee, cherry and nettle flavors. In our philistine opinion, the amount of 150 CZK for this beer set is overstated one and a half times. Marley and Bludice rate the local pale lager Štěpán at 7.2 out of ten, i.e. very good and the dark lager Štěpán with a mark of 6 is good (we think the rating is too high, our 5.8 on a ten-point scale is above average). As for wheat and flavored beers, here our scores are the same: no higher than 5 on a ten-point scale (average).

  • Address: Lipová 511/15, Praha 2, Nové Město;
  • How to get there: stop of urban ground transport "Štěpánská". Tram routes No. 22, No. 4, No. 6, No. 10, No. 13, No. 16, No. 10, No. 13. From the bus stop to the pub is only 87 meters;
  • Location on Mapy.cz map:«Pivovarský Dům»
  • Opening hours: Mon-Sun 11-23:30;
  • Website: www.pivovarskydum.com

Overview in one sentence. The brewery "Narodni", located in one of the most touristic places in Prague near the National Theater, has not yet decided on its target audience.

Atmosphere. A very nice brasserie in a good location, but with very mediocre service. Czechs almost never come here. (our assessment of the establishment is 4.8 on a ten-point scale - medium).

Kitchen. Very slow service - the ordered dish had to wait more than half an hour.

Beer. In the beer line of the brewer "Národní" there are 3 types of beer: light lager (11°); light unfiltered lager (11°) and dark lager at the price of 44 Kč per 0.4 liter. It would seem that both the price and the set of beer indicate that the brewery is focused on the local public. But no! There are almost no Chekhovs in the beer restaurant - only tourists. In our opinion, it's all about the beer. Personally, we did not like its aroma, taste, or aftertaste. In the same semi-dark camp, there is an unpleasant aroma, too much bitterness in the taste and some kind of blurry herbal aftertaste (our rating of the brewery's beer is 3.3 on a ten-point scale - bad). Marly and Bludice rate Czech Lion 13° semi-dark lager as 4.5 out of 10 (satisfactory); light lager «Czech Lion 11°» — 4.3 (satisfactory); Czech Lion 11° unfiltered light lager - 5 (above average). In general, this is not our beer. Well, it's up to you to decide whether or not to come here, although we would not recommend it!

  • Address: Národni 139/8, Praha 1, Nové Město;
  • How to get there: public transport stop "Národní divadlo". Tram routes No. 2, No. 9, No. 14, No. 18, No. 22, No. 23. The restaurant is directly opposite the bus stop;
  • Location on Mapy.cz map:
  • Opening hours: Mon-Sun 11:00-23:30;
  • Website: pivovarnarodni.cz

8. Pivovar "U Dvou koček"

Prague. Brewery "U Dvou koček"

Overview in one sentence. The brewery "At Two Cats", which appeared in 2010, exists, in our opinion, only to attract tourists to the restaurant of the same name, where, in addition to branded beer, Pilsner Urquell is also bottled.

Atmosphere. An old and atmospheric restaurant where an accordion player plays for tourists in the evenings and on weekends, for which visitors are charged an additional 30 Kč. Also, a 10% service charge is added to the check in the restaurant. You can avoid requisitions if you decide to drink beer standing here, on the bill of a drinking establishment (our rating of the establishment is 5.8 on a ten-point scale - above average).

Kitchen. Inexpensive and generally good food.

Beer. In the beer line of the brewer "At Two Cats" there are two types of beer: light lager "Světlá Kočka 12°" and dark lager "Tmavá Kočka 12°". The beer, in our opinion, is mediocre - which is why the locals drink Pilsner Urquell on the checkout (our rating of the brewery's beer is 5.2 on a ten-point scale - above average). Marly and Bludice give the dark lager a 6.5 out of 10 (good); light lager - 7.2 (very good). It is worth noting that during the tasting on August 29, 2015, Bludice gave the dark lager a rating of 3.5 (not my beer, bad). And on December 19, 2011, Bludice rated the same beer as excellent (8.5). This is a very bad sign! This means that the quality of the foamy drink varies greatly from brewing to brewing.

  • Address: Uhelný trh 415/10, Praha 1, Staré Město;
  • How to get there: Můstek metro station (yellow or green line of the metropolitan subway). Then walk 150 meters along Perlová street;
  • Location on Mapy.cz map: Pivovar "U Dvou koček"
  • Opening hours: Mon-Sun 11-23;
  • Website: www.udvoukocek.cz

9. Pivovar "U Medvídků"

Overview in one sentence. The brewery "At the Bears" brews the strongest beer in the world with a density of 33°.

Atmosphere. In the restaurant "At the Bear Cubs" Czech-Budejovice "Budweiser" is bottled. You can taste beer of your own production either in the brewery itself (for this you need to go through the restaurant), or at the bar counter, which is located in a separate hall of the restaurant. Unlike the restaurant, the brewery has a pleasant, albeit touristy atmosphere (our rating of 6.9 out of 10 is good). Czech bloggers rate the atmosphere of the establishment as 7.5 on a ten-point scale (very good), while considering the atmosphere of the establishment to be too touristy.

Kitchen. Unremarkable cuisine, with a slightly overpriced price tag.

Beer. The beer line of the brewer "U Medvídků" includes 4 types of beer: light special beer "1466" (14°); semi-dark special "Oldgott" (13°); flavored beer with honey flavor "Medvidek" (15°); and strong light lager X-beer33 (33°). The hallmark of a brewer's beer is its density. Sometimes to the detriment of taste (our overall beer score of 6.8 out of 10 is good). By the way, a glass of 0.3 liters. X-beer33 costs 120 Kč and is bottled. The high strength of the beer, according to the brewer, is achieved exclusively through barley malt. The main fermentation takes place within 14 days in open oak vats. Fermentation of beer takes place in oak barrels for 14 weeks, and then after the addition of a special strain of yeast, secondary fermentation takes place over the next 14 weeks. By the way, brewers will know the exact strength of the beer only after bottling the beer and conducting a laboratory analysis. Approximately it is equal to 13% (i.e. 13 ml of ethyl alcohol in 100 ml of beer). Czech bloggers' ratings of the brewery's beer are generally in line with ours: Medvidek - 5.3 out of 10 (slightly above average); "1466" - 5.8 (good); "Oldgott" - 6.3 (good); "X-beer33" - 7.5 (very good).

  • Address: Na Perštýně 345/7, Praha 1, Staré Město;
  • How to get there: public transport stop "Národní třída". Tram routes No. 1, No. 2, No. 9, No. 12, No. 18; #22, #25;
  • Location on Mapy.cz map: Pivovar "U Medvídků"
  • Opening hours: Mon-Sat 11-23; Sun 11:30-22:00;
  • Website: www.umedvidku.cz

Overview in one sentence. U Supa brewery was opened in 2017 on one of the most touristic streets in Prague, Celetná, however, we don’t need to continue further.

Atmosphere. An absolutely touristic atmosphere reigns in the U Soup restaurant, and it is mainly the well-to-do audience that rests here (our rating of the institution is 5.2 on a ten-point scale - above average).

Kitchen. Surprisingly relatively inexpensive meals.

Beer. In the beer line of the brewer "U Supa" there are only 2 types of beer: light lager "Sup 12°" and dark specialty "Sup 14°". An unremarkable beer, at a price 2 times higher than in any craft brewery in Prague outside the center (our beer rating is 5 out of 10 - average). Czech bloggers' assessments of the brewery's beer are generally in line with ours: pale lager - 4.5 out of 10 (average); dark lager - 6 (good) - the score, in our opinion, is overestimated by 1 point.

  • Address: Celetná 563/22, Praha 1, Staré Město;
  • How to get there: public transport stop "Náměstí Republiky". Tram routes No. 6, No. 8, No. 15, No. 26;
  • Location on Mapy.cz map:
  • Opening hours: Mon-Sun 11:30-24:00;
  • Website: www.pivovarusupa.cz

11. Loď "Pivovar"

Overview in one sentence. The ship "Pivovar" opened in 2017 instead of a disco club and now anchored under Prague's Stefanikov Bridge.

Atmosphere. An interesting idea is a brewery on a ship. The only thing is that the place is not entirely successful - not a single Prague sight is really visible from the ship! In addition, the restaurant has too slow and careless service (our rating of the institution is 5.2 on a ten-point scale - above average).

Kitchen. Relatively inexpensive, but poor cuisine.

Beer. In the beer line of the brewer "Korabl" there are 3 regular types of beer: light lager "Legie 10°"; pale lager "Republika 12°" and dark lager "Monarchie 13°". Other varieties are seasonal. The beer is not outstanding. The brewer's best beer, in our opinion, is the Legie 10° pale lager, which was awarded the gold medal of the Prague Beer Lovers (our rating of the brewery's beer is 5 on a ten-point scale - average). Marly and Bludice give the pale lager (10°) a 6.5 out of 10 (good); pale lager (12°) - 5.5 (above average); dark lager (13°) - 8 (excellent).

Overview in one sentence. Brewery "Boršov", which until 2017 called itself the brewer "Pražský most U Valšů", is one of the most inconspicuous brewers in the Czech capital.

Atmosphere. Expensive, but tastelessly decorated brasserie (our rating of the institution is 5 out of 10 - average).

Kitchen. Unremarkable cuisine.

Beer. At the brewer "Borshov" on the vychep: light unfiltered pils (12°); semi-dark ale (11°); dark ale (10°) and pale fermented lager (11°). In our opinion, the brewer's beer is not bad, but nothing remarkable (our rating of the brewery's beer is 5.2 out of 10, slightly above average). The assessment by Czech bloggers of the brewery's beer is generally the same as ours - an average rating of 5.5 on a ten-point scale (above average).

Prague's breweries are not for tourists

This section presents breweries that are located in the residential areas of the city and serve mostly the local public. As a rule, reasonable prices and a non-tourist atmosphere are here, although there are questions about the quality of beer in some breweries.

Overview in one sentence. A very good young brewery in Prague, which opened only in 2014, but has already managed to win the hearts, first of all, of the local public.

Atmosphere. The Luzhiny brewery is located in the Lužiny shopping center and has a summer terrace, a restaurant hall on the third floor of the shopping center and a beer hall with a checkout on the 1st floor. Everything is decorated in a modern style, without any hint of the old Prague pubs. It’s up to you to choose where to sit, although we liked the bright restaurant area more - dusk reigns in the beer hall, but you can have a couple of mugs standing there (our rating of the institution is 7.8 on a ten-point scale - very good).

Kitchen. Overall, good and reasonably priced food. It's a pity the meat from the chef's own farm was dry and burnt on one side.

Beer. All beer in the Lužiny brewery, according to the local brewer (brewer) Michał Nowotny: unfiltered, unpasteurized, without preservatives, foam stabilizers, dyes or other chemical additives. The four stars above the brewer's logo represent the 4 main types of beer that are constant for the drinking establishment: pale lager (11°); dark lager (12°); semi-dark specialty lager (Märzan, 13°) and Belgian pale ale (LU-Ale, 14°). Other varieties are seasonal. By the way, we liked the signature light lager (11°). Our rating of the brewery's beer is 6.7 out of 10 - good. Marley and Bludice rate the pale lager (11°) at 6.8 out of 10 (very good); semi-dark lager (12°) - 6.3 (good); semi-dark special lager (12°) - 5.3 (above average); LU-Ale - 5 (medium).

  • Address: Archeologická 2256/1, Praha 13, Stodůlky;
  • How to get there: Lužiny metro station (yellow line of the metropolitan subway). The pub is located in the Lužiny shopping center, the entrance to which is located right at the metro exit;

Overview in one sentence. The best beer restaurant with a brewery not only in the two bedroom cadastres (neighborhoods) of Prague-15: Hostivař and Horní Měcholupy, but perhaps in the whole of Prague.

Atmosphere. The Gostivar brewery is located in the residential area of Prague, Gornji Mnecholupy, and in the evening it is not so easy to find it, given the illumination of the residential areas of the Czech capital. On the other hand, it is unlikely to find people in the entire area who cannot tell you the way here. This is a very modern and beautiful brasserie for the locals - and they usually fill it to capacity. In the warm season, the restaurant has an excellent summer terrace, where you can even walk barefoot on the grass! Our assessment of the institution is 8.1 on a ten-point scale - very good. Marley rates the brewery as an 8 out of 10 (excellent).

Kitchen. Good and inexpensive food.

Beer. According to local brewers Jan Třil and Frantisek Polachek, all beer in the Hostivar brewery is unfiltered and unpasteurized. The production uses malt from the Czech malt factory Karla Klusachka and the German malt factory Weirmann from Bamberg. Hops from the Žatec region, and yeast from the Prague Research Institute of Brewing and Malting. The brewer's cap was present during our visit: pale lager (11°); dark lager (12°); pale lager (13°); American amber ale (H-Ale, 15°); Doppelbock (17°); pale light ale (10°) and dark specialty (14°). Beer, in our opinion, at the Gostivar brewer is good. So try it here boldly (our rating of the brewery's beer is 7.8 out of 10 - very good). The assessment by Czech bloggers of the brewery's beer is generally the same as ours: pale lager (11°) - 6.4 on a ten-point scale (good); semi-dark lager (12°) - 5.4 (above average); American amber ale (15°) - 7 (very good); Doppelbock (17°) - 7.7 (very good); pale lager (13°) - 6.5 (good); dark special (14°) — 8.3 (excellent).

Prague. Libocký pivovar "Nad Sarkou"

Overview in one sentence. According to local natives, the tavern "Nad Šárkou" is the best drinking establishment in the Prague region of Liboc - we support it!

Atmosphere. In the metropolitan Prague district of Liboc, which is located on the outskirts of the Czech capital, just a 13-minute drive from the Prague , the signature beer restaurant of the Libotsky brewer found its home. The famous Prague brewers Pátek brothers are now responsible for the quality of the foamy drink with a century-old tradition (the modern brewery opened in 2013). The restaurant "Nad Šárkou" is quiet, comfortable, has two halls, free internet and almost no tourists (our rating of the establishment is 7.2 on a ten-point scale - very good). Marley rates the brewery a 5.5 out of 10 (above average), scolding the brewery for its smoky hall. But now there is no smoking in the pubs of Prague, so the rating should change to at least 7 points (very good).

Kitchen. The restaurant has good Czech cuisine and excellent lunches.

Beer. All beer from the Libotsky brewer is unfiltered and unpasteurized. We recommend you to try here a very good amber ale "Amber Ale Hvězda 13°" and an interesting dark wheat beer "Šebestián 13°". The following varieties are also present on the brewer's head: Šárka 11° light lager; light lager Ctirad 12°, light wheat beer Šebestián 11°, light lager Chrudoš 11° and dark specialty beer Černý Pátek 13° (our rating of the brewery beer is 6.5 out of 10 – good). In our opinion, Czech bloggers' assessment of the brewery's beer is underestimated: light wheaten (11°) - 6.5 on a ten-point scale (good); dark wheat (13°) - 6.5 (good); pale lager (11°) - 4 (medium); amber ale (13°) - 6 (good); dark special (13°) - 4 (medium); pale lager (12°) - 4.5 (above average).

  • Address: Evropská 134/209, Praha 6, Liboc;
  • How to get there: public transport stop "Divoká Šárka". Tram routes No. 2, No. 20, No. 26 and bus No. 119. The pub is located 50 meters from the stop, opposite the McDonald's eatery;

    Overview in one sentence. To visit Prague and not drink beer in the signature restaurant Potrefená husa Na Verandách of the Smichov brewing giant Staropramen, where, according to connoisseurs, freshly brewed beer comes from the brewery through the brewery, it’s very strange!

    Atmosphere. Here they love tourists, accept bank cards, good cuisine and a Russian-language menu (our rating of the institution is 7.1 on a ten-point scale - good).

    Kitchen. We recommend that you try at the restaurant, perhaps the best marinated Camembert cheese (nakládaný hermelín) in the city and pork knee (pečené vepřové koleno) baked in dark beer with onion, honey, garlic and spices.

    Beer. In our opinion, things are not going so smoothly with the beer assortment of the largest Prague brewer. In the current line of the Czech brewing giant Staropramen, one can note the semi-dark lager with an avalanche effect Staropramen Velvet 12°; bottom-fermented wheat beer "Staropramen nefiltrovaný 12°" and amber lager "Staropramen Granat 12°". Since recently, the brewery has been part of the North American Molson Coors group, and therefore lovers of Belgian beer should definitely drink here the freshly brewed wheat beer flavored with coriander and orange peel Hoegaarden and the light lager Stella Artois (our rating of the brewery beer is 5.2 on a ten-point scale - slightly above average). Marley and Bludice rate Staropramen's beer even lower than we do, which is why a rare beer gets an above-average rating from them.

    Prague. Restaurace Klášterní šenk

    Overview in one sentence. The modern craft microbrewery of St. Vojtech in the Břevnov Monastery, which opened only in 2012, successfully continues the tradition of monastery brewing with a 1000-year history.

    Atmosphere. In the Prague district of Břevnov, on the territory of the monastery of the same name, a nice monastery restaurant is hidden, which serves not only baked rabbit leg in creamy sauce or goat cheese with blackberries, but also grilled ostrich liver. And at reasonable prices! However, recently the place has become somewhat touristy, the portions are smaller, and the waiters are a little sloppy. But I am glad that the locals do not stop having lunch here with the whole family on weekends. So, all is not lost! For dinner in a restaurant, a table reservation is required by phone + 420 220 406 294 (in Czech or English), or an electronic application on the restaurant's website (our rating of the institution is 6.9 on a ten-point scale - good).

    Kitchen. Interesting and inexpensive author's cuisine.

    Beer. The restaurant "Klášterní šenk" serves beer from the Břevnov brewer St. Vojtěch. The brewery itself is located in a neighboring building and it is there that you can buy the entire range of products produced by the brewer. The restaurant serves Benedikt 12° pale lager, Benedikt černé 11° dark lager and Benedikt IPA 15° Indian pale ale. Rzhezane beer is also offered - light and dark Benedict (our rating of the brewery's beer is 7.2 on a ten-point scale - very good). Czech beer bloggers' assessment of the brewery's beer is, in our opinion, a bit underestimated: 12° pale lager 6.3 out of 10 (good); Indian pale ale (15°) - 7.1 (very good); dark lager (11°) - 6.3 (good).

    Overview in one sentence. The Vinogradsky brewer opened the brewhouse in 2014 and today it is visited mainly by tourists.

    Atmosphere. A modern brasserie with 2 halls, one of which (in the lower hall) houses the brewhouse. The beer brewing process can be observed through special viewing windows (our rating of the institution is 5.5 on a ten-point scale - above average).

    Kitchen. Good and inexpensive meals. The kitchen is open until 22:00.

    Beer. On tap at the brewer: unfiltered unpasteurized pale lager (11°); pale lager (12°); semi-dark lager (13°); stout (13°) and Indian pale ale (14°). In our opinion, the beer from the brewer is mediocre. There are no special complaints about it, however, as well as enthusiasm (our rating of the brewery's beer is 5 on a ten-point scale - average). Czech beer bloggers' ratings of the brewery's beer are even lower than ours: pale lager (11°) - 4.5 out of 10 (average); Indian pale ale (14°) - 4 (medium); semi-dark lager (13°) - 5.3 (above average); pale lager (12°) - 3 (poor); stout (13°) - 8 (excellent).

    • Address: Korunni 2506/106, Praha 10, Vinohrady;
    • How to get there: public transport stop "Orionka". Tram routes No. 1, No. 9, No. 16, No. 21, No. 23; Malesicky mikropivovar

      Overview in one sentence. The Malešice microbrewery is located in the Prague cadastre Malešice, and, as far as we know, it does not brew the beer itself - the friends of the beer restaurant do it for him according to his original recipes: the Kynšperský brewer; family brewer Zichovec and some other breweries.

      Atmosphere. A very small and cozy restaurant in the middle of nowhere (our rating of the establishment is 7.7 on a ten-point scale - very good).

      Kitchen. Excellent beer snacks. And the Tatar beef steak (tatarák - raw meat dish) is simply amazing!

      Beer. On tap at the microbrewery: Signature American Pale Ale (11°) – brewed for the restaurant by the Zichovec family brewer and Signature Pale Lager (12°) – brewed by the Kynšperský brewer. Also on the side of the restaurant is beer from the brewer Jihlava; brewer Zelivský; Frýdlant brewer; brewer Clock and many others, including beer from German and Belgian breweries. In general, the beer here is not bad - but you expect something special from the Prague brewery, and not bottling beer from Germany (our rating of the brewery's beer is 6.2 on a ten-point scale - good).

      Overview in one sentence. The Beznoska Brewery (a funny name, isn't it?), which opened in 2014 in the Prosek Prague Cadastre, is one of the most soulful Prague pubs, although there are very few good beers in the brewery.

      Atmosphere. Absolutely everyone likes the signature restaurant Školička by brewer Beznosk. It is cozy, warm and sincere here. A very pleasant non-tourist atmosphere and friendly staff - especially a funny waiter boy in shorts and barefoot sneakers (our rating of the institution is 8 out of 10 - very good).

      Kitchen. Good and inexpensive food.

      Beer. On tap at the microbrewery: pale lager (9°); pale lager (11°); pale lager (12°); semi-dark lager (11°); Indian pale ale (14°) and stout (15°). As for the top-fermented beers (ale and stout), they are very mediocre here. The bottom fermented beer here is pretty good. We recommend trying the signature light lager (12°) and semi-dark lager 11° (our rating of the brewery's beer is 5.9 out of 10 - good). Marly and Bludice somehow disliked Beznoska's beer, and so a rare beer received an above-average rating from them: 12° pale lager, 5.8 on a ten-point scale (good); Indian pale ale (14°) - 4 (medium); semi-dark lager (11°) - 5.8 (good); stout (15°) - 4.8 (above average); pale lager (9°) - 1.5 (terrible)."Kolčavka"

      Overview in one sentence. We will remember the Kolchavka brewery forever thanks not to the branded beer, but to the atmosphere that reigned in the basement of the beer restaurant on one of the March evenings in the spring of 2018.

      Atmosphere. Very nice brasserie. It is a pity that it is located very unsuccessfully - it is not so easy to find it in a sleeping and unlit Prague area! The first thing we found in the pub was that tourists from England were hanging out by the brewhouse… The sign is not very good! Going down to the basement, we tasted all the beer of the brewery. And they were already about to leave - the beer in a drinking establishment is ordinary. But then our attitude to the brewery was radically changed by young Czech musicians from the group Banana Dilemma, who occupied the basement for their rehearsals-concerts. Just beauties! And the waiter who threw the tray and played the double bass is just Boh! By the way, a heavily drunk man in years and a loose shirt, who sent the waiter to play music, shouting loudly “Basisto” - the manager of the brewery! We enjoyed hanging out here for a couple of hours and it didn’t matter what kind of beer they pour here! So, add up your opinion about the institution yourself by looking

And the Czech Republic as a whole is rightfully considered one of the world's centers of brewing. The Czechs opened the first brewery in 1087. In the year of the opening of Charles University in 1348, almost four dozen breweries were already operating in Prague. By the 15th century, their number had increased to fifty. In the future, their number only increased. A break was observed only in the 16th century, when, due to a lack of bread, brewing had to be banned for a while.

Beer is brewed here using only Czech raw materials. The light and dark beer that Novomestsky brewer offers to its visitors is unfiltered, 11% beer, served directly from the fermenter, without preservatives, rich in B vitamins and other nutrients.

Novomestsky brewer is a large restaurant with three floors going underground. The halls are small, each in its own style (from Gothic to modern), they are united along the perimeter by a narrow labyrinth. In order not to get lost, you must always take to the right and go, as it were, in a circle. By the way, a small brewery is located here. Tens of thousands of people become visitors to the festival, tasting Czech and foreign beers. Local breweries in Prague and factories in neighboring countries offer their products. The entrance ticket for the entire period of the festival costs 100 CZK.

We continue the story about Prague. Today Vitya will advise where to drink beer and have a tasty meal, and he will also tell you what is unusual to see in Prague without wandering around numerous museums and architectural monuments.

I am sure that most readers associate Prague with beer. Therefore, I will begin my story with him. I will not sing laudatory odes to this drink, I will simply agree that beer flows like a river here. However, this probably applies to the entire Czech Republic. In all three corners of this wonderful country where I have been, not a single dinner, not a single conversation was made without a foamy drink.

Breweries.

Naturally, there are countless places to go in the Czech capital, so I will only talk about some of the places that I have been to and that I liked.
I note right away that beer is very cheap here, even within the city center. But this applies only to promoted manufacturers. I, however, consider the use of some gold-flame or a similar product for its main purpose in Prague as blasphemy. Therefore, we will focus primarily on breweries.
Brewery "Three Roses" is located almost in the very center of the city (Husova 10/232). Here you can try 6 types of beer. Photos of assortment and prices in May 2015, but you can check on the official website: http://www.u3r.cz/ru/.

Despite the proximity to the center and good May weather, the place turned out to be deserted, so my colleague and I decided to stop by. And not in vain. Enjoy the peace, tranquility and delicious fresh beer.

Even Pika could not resist and got out of the backpack.

By the way, the opening of the second brewery was announced in the spring of 2016.
Another brewery I visited, Novomestsky brewery (Vodičkova 20).

Here you will taste a real Czech lounger and you can see how the fermentation process takes place from the hall or by taking a tour. You can find all the necessary information on the official website of the brewery: http://www.npivovar.cz

Three types of beer are offered. In addition to the widely used light-colored sunbed, you can also taste its dark variety. There is also carbonated beer, but I have not tried it. In general, even if you do not have a company, go anyway. There is always someone to drink with here.

The third brewery I visited is U Flecku. (Kremencova 11). Official website: http://ru.ufleku.cz/.

Of all three - the most expensive, only one variety is brewed, a dark lounger. It is worth noting that the beer is good and the taste is quite interesting. In addition, it has its own unique atmosphere: common tables, a man with an accordion, tincture as a bonus.

You can go out into the garden to breathe.

Where to drink beer.

For those who want more movement, blend in with the crowd or drink a simpler beer, I advise you to look into the Museum (Dlouha 46).

There is a huge selection of beer from small Czech producers, each variety is listed on the menu in terms of composition, color and taste. There were a lot of people both times.

Recently opened a second pub (Náměstí Míru, Americká 341/43, Prague 2). You can find other information on the website http://www.praguebeermuseum.com/.
If you want a little quieter, then it is better to look into the Mlýnská kavárna tavern (Vsehrdova 449/14) located near the Chertovka channel. You can take a beer and get out on the benches in the park.

Where to eat.

To my great regret, I have not found a place where tasty beer and tasty, inexpensive food would complement each other. Maybe this is right and you need to separate the flies from the cutlets and enjoy one thing.

On the advice of my colleague, who has been to Prague several times, we often ate at Restoracy u Knihovny (Velislavinova, 10). Highly recommend. From the pros: close to the center, but I have not seen tourists even once in 5-6 visits, cheap and tasty food. Beer, however, is normal.

And, of course, I am sure that no one will pass by street food. Most of the pavilions are located on Wenceslas Square, more like a street, as well as the central square

Unusual sights.

After you become full and drunk, Prague will seem completely different. Riders will ride an inverted horse:

Suddenly, the houses will start dancing:

Little men are crawling up the TV tower:

Then you will find yourself already on a similar little man:

And the Hare Krishnas will become your friends:

In the end, you will want to be part of the composition of the fountain and join the pissing men.

This fountain is worth talking about separately. In addition to the fact that men write on the map of the Czech Republic, their main elements, namely pipis, change direction, thereby drawing the sayings of famous Prague residents with fountains. You can try on the role of a writer by sending an SMS to the number indicated next to the fountain (+420 724 370 770). After some time, men will try to reproduce your saying already.
Among all this disgrace, visit some more memorable and interesting places. From the street Parizska the Metronome is clearly visible, which was placed instead of the monument to Stalin and symbolizes the time that changes everything.

The narrowest street in Prague has no name. A traffic light has been installed for the passage of pedestrians. Walk through U Lužického semináre and you will definitely find it.

The building on Wenceslas Square, from the balcony of which, during the Velvet Revolution, the playwright, dissident and former political prisoner Vaclav Havel performed:

On the same square near the museum, you will find a memorial plaque in honor of the students who set themselves on fire in protest against the entry of Soviet troops.

For Belarusians, the building of the national library may be of interest ( Marianske nam. 5), on the wall of which there is a memorial plaque to Skaryne:

If after all this you still do not want to sleep and want nightly entertainment, then take a walk along Wenceslas or the main square. Offers exceed demand, so you will be presented with various entertainment programs, and in different languages, including Russian. On the advice of experienced people, I only brushed aside importunate barkers. This is not for you. Although this is a completely different story.
