How to cook crumbly buckwheat porridge in the microwave

We prepare buckwheat for cooking in the microwave in the same way as if you were boiling it on the stove. We measure out the required amount of cereal and be sure to sort it out manually. Buckwheat is a very treacherous grain in this regard; it often contains small pebbles and various plant debris.

Now take a container with a lid, suitable for use in the microwave. Pour the washed cereal into it. Fill the cereal with cold water, add salt and close the lid. There is no need to pre-soak the cereal before cooking. We measure both water and cereal with the same glass. When cooking buckwheat in the microwave, you usually need less salt than usual.

Close the container with a lid and put it in the microwave. We turn on the stove to maximum, the time is set depending on the power of the stove. With a power of 700-800 W, set the timer for 7 minutes, with a power of 900-1000 W, 4 minutes will be enough.

After the set time, remove the container and mix the contents. During this time, the water should already boil, the cereal is almost ready, but still a certain amount of liquid has not yet evaporated. You need to bring the porridge to readiness. Therefore, after mixing, close the container with a lid again and return it to the microwave.

At this stage, you need to adjust the power of the microwave - turn it down a little. Set the microwave to 600 W, set the timer for the same 7 minutes. If you have a very old microwave and there is no function for setting the required power, leave it at maximum, but cook the porridge a couple of minutes less - i.e. Set the timer for 5 minutes. Old microwave ovens usually have a power of 650-750 W and the set time is just enough for the cereal to reach readiness.

Remove the finished buckwheat porridge from the microwave. Mix. If you see that the porridge is still watery (unlikely, of course, but anything can happen), put it in the microwave for a couple more minutes, this time without closing the lid. But in this case, with a microwave power of 800 W, buckwheat porridge in the microwave was completely ready in 14 minutes. Now season it with a piece of butter and serve.

You can simply serve it with butter, with stewed meat, or prepare a separate dressing for it from vegetables and/or meat and mushrooms.

Buckwheat cooked in the microwave is no less tasty than cooked on the stove or in the oven. Still don’t know if you can cook buckwheat in the microwave? Can! In a variety of forms: from a side dish to porridge.

Tips on how to cook properly

A microwave is an indispensable item in the household. With its help you can not only heat food, but also prepare various dishes. The modern generation manages to use it for cooking porridge, baking muffins, making soufflés, and frying meat.

A microwave oven is based on a simple principle - microwaves inside the device affect the water contained in the product being heated or cooked. Due to this effect, water molecules vibrate and, as a result, food is heated or cooked. The special internal coating is a wave reflector, which allows them to move inside and actively influence the products. The waves do not affect us due to the special sealed body of the microwave and a special mesh on the door.

Glassware for cooking buckwheat

First, stock up on the right utensils - choose a glass bowl if the portion is small or a solid 2-liter container.

Remember that when cooking, the cereal will increase in size by at least 2 times.

We wash the buckwheat

For anyone who doesn’t like to spend a lot of time with preliminary preparation, we recommend buying buckwheat that has already been washed and sorted.

Such cereals can be cooked without any problems both at work and at home without bothering with lengthy rinsing.

Frying before cooking in the microwave

If you want the taste of the porridge to be more intense, first fry it in a frying pan over an open fire for 5-7 minutes, stirring continuously.

This kind of buckwheat is then cooked for the same amount of time as regular buckwheat, but it turns out more crumbly.

Add vegetable oil

To ensure friability, you should also not stir in the butter before cooking; it is better to add it directly to the finished dish.

But for all lovers of classic buckwheat porridge, we recommend, on the contrary, flavoring dry cereal with it before cooking.

Since food is salted better in the microwave, we add less salt than usual.

How to cook cereal in the microwave

For 2 medium servings we will need the following amount of products. We take into account that you need to measure the water with the same glass or cup as the cereal, so that the proportions are exactly 1:2.

  1. Pour dry cereal into a 1 liter glass bowl and fill with water.
  2. Stir, cover with a lid and place in the microwave at maximum power for 5-6 minutes.

Since everyone’s stove is different, when choosing the time we base it on our maximum power value. At 1000 W we will need 3 minutes for pre-cooking, at a power of 700 W - 6-7.

  3. After the time has passed, carefully, so as not to get burned by the condensation, open the lid - there should still be a little water left, mix the buckwheat and set it to finish cooking at 600 W. Keep at this power for 6-7 minutes.
  4. When the timer goes off, test the buckwheat porridge for doneness. If it seems that it has come out a little dry, add a little 0.5 cm of water to the bottom and set it to finish cooking at the same power.
  5. If everything is good, we can serve it right away, or we can let it wait. To do this, cover it with a lid again and keep it at 400 W for 5 minutes. This porridge will be soft, but crumbly and very tasty.

Salt the prepared buckwheat, season it with butter or vegetable oil, mustard, or sprinkle with chopped herbs if desired.

Porridge prepared in this way in the microwave will become a favorite dish for the whole family!
